Years ago, if a car buyer was considering a custom order purchase, it generally meant that it was a rare (and expensive) car or they wanted something very specific. Either way, the car buyers were happy to pay for the privilege of getting something unique, despite knowing that it would probably take extra time to complete the order. The allure of getting a unique car offset the extra wait time vs. purchasing a new car from the local inventory. These days the landscape has shifted dramatically. Gone are the days of rows of new in stock cars to choose from, so when you need something different, then custom ordering from the factory is your best option. If you need a vehicle and can’t wait for a special order, then purchasing from the available cars on the lot is likely your best choice.
The enjoyable part of custom ordering is that you can select only the features you need. You can pick leather seating, a big NAV screen, and AWD, and it can be your favorite color: black! When buying a vehicle that’s in stock, you probably would have needed to compromise on your wishlist depending on the available new vehicles. You might be able to get all of the upgrades you wanted, but it was FWD instead of AWD. Or you could get All-Wheel Drive, but it comes with cloth seats instead of leather. If you custom order, you can get what you want.
Conversely, when you custom order your new car from the manufacturer, you don’t pay for the upgrade you don’t want. Perhaps you wanted Navigation and AWD but didn’t care about the leather seating or color. While you might not be able to individually order each option by itself, yet by custom ordering your new vehicle, you can reduce the pricey upgrades. Be sure to check out any available option packages, as they often offer the most popular upgrades together at a discounted price.
